Privacy

TheoryLane needs an account, so there is a record of your study progress attached to it. That record exists to carry your revision between your own devices, and for nothing else. It is never sold, never shared, and never used to build a profile of you.

What your account holds

• Your email address, and a first name if you chose to give one
• Which plan you are on
• How many mock tests you have started today, so the daily allowance can be counted
• Which questions you have attempted, and whether you got them right
• Your revision schedule and mastery level for each question and each sign
• Bookmarks and mock test results
• How many questions you answered on each day

Your password is handled by our authentication provider and is never visible to TheoryLane.

What stays on your device only

• Your preferences, including an optional test date you enter yourself
• The full record of individual attempts used to show recent accuracy
• The cached question bank that makes offline practice work

The working copy of everything is held in IndexedDB, a storage area belonging to this website in your browser. The app reads from there, which is why it keeps working with no connection; the account copy is a mirror that catches up when you are back online.

Who at TheoryLane can see what

Administrators can see the list of accounts: the email address, which plan each one is on, where that plan came from, when it was last signed in to, and how many mock tests have been started. They can export those lists. They cannot see your answers, your mastery levels, your bookmarks or your mock test papers: the database refuses those reads, not just the interface. Every change an administrator makes, and every export they take, is written to an audit trail that nobody can edit or delete.

What is not collected

• No advertising or cross-site tracking, and no third-party analytics of your answers
• No behavioural learner profile, and no scoring of you as a driver
• No sale or sharing of study data with anyone
• Nothing is sent to the Road Safety Authority or the official theory test service

Deleting your data

Resetting your progress in Settings deletes it from this device and from your account, not just from the screen. You can also export a copy of everything first. To have the account itself deleted, along with its study record, contact us through emketech.com.

Offline use

After your first visit the app and your question bank are cached in your browser so that practice, road signs and mock tests work with no connection. Updates to the question bank require connectivity.
